CPI clients benefit from commitment to growth
Outsourcing gains wider attention from businesses of every size as virtually all sectors continue wrestling with economic challenges. Now a leader in our field suggests that governments consider support for an industry that "is not part of the problem, but is an integral part of the solution."
That novel idea comes from Michael Corbett, chairman of the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals (IAOP), in an update that we and other members received recently. Here's part of what he says:
With revenues up 13 percent in 2008 and millions of employees worldwide, outsourcing is one of the few bright spots in today’s economy and, just as importantly, is in many ways the standard bearer for what the new global economy will look like. And because outsourcing often takes mundane, back-office operations and transforms them into high-value, front-office revenue contributors, it has the power to lift people and communities — both in developed and developing countries. . . . A stimulus package for our industry . . . would include government support for programs to help communities build the skills and infrastructure it will take to attract global companies to their areas. It would include programs to help support the flow of capital and other resources to entrepreneurs willing to launch new outsourcing ventures. It would include an investment in professional development.
Actually, CompuPacific and other BPO pacesetters in China already gain from a strong government commitment to expand outsourcing capability. The Ministry of Commerce this year announced incentives for outsourcing firms in Beijing, Xi'an and other cities. Assistance includes preferential enterprise income tax rates, favorable loan rates and subsidies for some college graduates employed on long-term contracts.
“The Chinese government has set ambitious goals around the growth of the services outsourcing industry,” consultant James Wheeler of CSO Group in Shanghai says in a China International Business article last month. “Government support has been essential to the industry’s growth over the past decade, and will continue to be important for future growth.”
National policies that recognize outsourcing's "power to lift people and communities," as IAOP's chairman puts it, also benefit our clients around the world through CPI's enhanced skills, productive recruiting and sustainable growth.

Trends in Outsourcing Electronic Content Still Out of Control for Most Firms April 6, 2009, Tech Central
Managing electronic office documents is still a challenge for nearly half of the 962 organizations surveyed by the Association for Information and Image Management (AIIM). Its annual "State of the ECM Industry" report also found that cost savings and efficiency now are the top motivators for bringing content into a controlled and searchable environment, replacing regulatory compliance as the main driver. "Poorly managed and out of control information represents a huge potential source of bottom line savings in this tight economy," says AIIM's president. More >>
