Global Outsourcing News February 2009 No. 41
Consistent integrity is essential in any situation
Trust and integrity are as important as cost, quality and innovation in virtually all industries. That's certainly true for business process outsourcing, a partnership that depends on strict standards of honesty.
As part of the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals (IAOP), CompuPacific upholds its Code of Ethical and Business Practice Standards – a six-page document covering conflicts of interest, confidentiality, accurate resource descriptions, risk mitigation and other crucial areas. Members pledge to "take full responsibility for the outcomes of their work," for example, and "to encourage, through example, the highest professional standards among all those with whom we work." The guidelines are especially important "in light of today's challenges," IAOP's chairman reminded members this month. Michael Corbett explains why in the association newsletter:
"Many of the headlines and conversations taking place today, both in outsourcing and in business in general, have to do with failures in business ethics and its practices. The lesson we seem to need to learn repeatedly is that there are simply no shortcuts or compromises when it comes to doing business the right way, day in and day out." CPI, which two years ago earned ISO 27001 certification for secure information-protection systems, has always known that doing business the right way is the only way.

Strategists present China business insights January 23, 2009, News release Strategic and operational guidelines for business opportunities in China are provided in a new report co-authored by Jon Aries, managing director of CompuPacific Europe. The world's fastest-growing market "cannot be ignored and needs to be factored into your business strategy," advises the white paper, written with management consultant Neil Blakeman, a China trade specialist.
The UK-based advisers explore China's "vibrant and capable services outsourcing sector," noting that Chinese business process outsourcing (BPO) providers are "increasingly creative and innovative." China offers outsource clients "excellent opportunity for location diversification from existing locations, lowering vendor exposure and geo-political risk," according to the 14-page study, titled "The China Perspective; Practical Advice." Aries and Blakeman describe "hybrid [outsourcing] models based on 'build, operate and transfer' agreements." A local partner helps with recruiting, training, leasing, government relations and other logistic support "to overcome and reduce setup costs and timelines." Whatever model is applied, the consultants stress, "selecting the right partner is essential." Their checklist includes confirming resource scalability and relevant vertical or process experience.
